Check out my new blog at Lil' Country Librarian!

Join me at my new blog, Lil' Country Librarian, as I make the transition from Kindergarten Teacher to Elementary Librarian!

About Me

Welcome! I'm Marlana and this is my ninth year teaching in a rural school district. I created this blog to compile lessons, ideas and printables that will make teaching easier and more meaningful to my Kindergarten students. Please visit often!

I am happily married with two precious children, a son and a daughter. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU, now MSU) in 1998. After graduation, I also became certified in the areas of Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education and provisional Special Reading Certification. I received my Master's degree in Reading from SMSU in 2003. From Kindergarten to post graduate work, I  was in school for over 23 consecutive years!!! Most recently, I have received additional training in working with students with autism and students with visual impairments.

Throughout my teaching career, I have taken several years off to raise my family. I am currently teaching my eighth year of Kindergarten. I previously taught Title I Remedial Reading (grades 1-6) for one year.

I have contributed several activities to Mailbox magazine that have been published.  I have also had teacher created materials published at atozteacherstuff.com.

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and daughter. Being a mommy is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I take my role as a mother very seriously. If there is any time left at the end of the day,  I enjoy thrift store shopping, adding to my blog, going to yard sales, making boutique bows, being outside, and doing practically anything while being with my family and friends.

Here's a short video of pictures taken of me with my teacher friends and family at all different events throughout the last few years. I enjoy being able to attend conferences, do charity work and just plain have fun with doing so many fun things in and out of school with such amazing people! I'm proud to be a teacher and to have made lifelong friends!
