How do your students respond to your library expectations or rules? For me, the easier to remember, the better!<div><br /></div><div>I am guilty of having a long drawn out list of library expectations years ago that outlined everything I basically hoped wouldn't happen in our library. It was way too much! </div><div><br /></div><div>Simplifying my library expectations several years ago made things so much easier for my students and me. Pretty much everything that students might try to get away with is encompassed under one of these expectations. At the beginning of the year, I briefly go over the expectations and give examples of each.</div><div><br /></div><div>For example, under 'be kind' just a few of the things we discuss are the tone of voice we use, what sharing looks and sounds like, and how to treat others how we want to be treated. We also discuss when it's appropriate to try to take care of things on our own (be responsible) and when we need to get help from someone else to resolve a situation. These are generally my biggest issues in the library. </div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5QUzAcjItZAjFs5j7NfJq8fxG4EZoQ0GxBvprlL9hnsEZOVWT5IJfg1BemUqGIG8kADF9FM1YMaj1qs8br1fF81daBpoiaEzWCJu7KDNXOI8lz7t3dkzxK_-rP46LSJZ9jNYYsxFQ2FF_Ph4T_fzzD3g_Wx8UDxnYkhAfpkUAffKBra38GggmoU4v/s2000/Library%20Expectations.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1545" data-original-width="2000" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5QUzAcjItZAjFs5j7NfJq8fxG4EZoQ0GxBvprlL9hnsEZOVWT5IJfg1BemUqGIG8kADF9FM1YMaj1qs8br1fF81daBpoiaEzWCJu7KDNXOI8lz7t3dkzxK_-rP46LSJZ9jNYYsxFQ2FF_Ph4T_fzzD3g_Wx8UDxnYkhAfpkUAffKBra38GggmoU4v/w400-h309/Library%20Expectations.png" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Satisfy; font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">My 2022-2023 Library Expectations:</span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be safe. </span></span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be respectful. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be responsible. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be kind. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be a reader. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Be loved by Mrs. Howerton. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">(Some of you may be uncomfortable with the last one, but I tell my students that I do not hold grudges. You're going to need lots of these cutting boards to make new shelf dividers for your books! </div><div><br /></div><div>This year I became the K-12 District Library Media Specialist for our schools. I am going between our elementary school library in the mornings and our junior high/high school library in the afternoons. Since our high school library hadn't been used as a library in several years, I inherited a pretty massive mess, but couldn't wait to take it on! I love organizing! One of the first things I needed was better signage. I wasn't able to afford much on my library budget, so as I laid in bed thinking of anything and everything sturdier than cardstock, <a href="https://www.dollartree.com/" target="_blank">Dollar Tree</a> cutting boards popped into my head and the rest is history! <div><br /></div><div>I can't wait to make some of these for our elementary library, as well. Only I think I will print colored pictures on cardstock and just fold them over the ends of the cutting boards and cover over them with packing tape. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Y3_bWuMZr8/YU02xxrD1kI/AAAAAAAAJGY/mKpCaaejTcMMivFnpiI4kE44jgKn_p9NgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/1.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dollar Tree Shelf Dividers Elementary High School Library" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Y3_bWuMZr8/YU02xxrD1kI/AAAAAAAAJGY/mKpCaaejTcMMivFnpiI4kE44jgKn_p9NgCLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/1.png" width="320" /></a></div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SXTvWFsu6MA/YU02yXdwtkI/AAAAAAAAJGg/9KTyinhX7qI_206oIDURSHWZOwSVjmmCwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/2.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dollar Tree Shelf Dividers Barcode" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SXTvWFsu6MA/YU02yXdwtkI/AAAAAAAAJGg/9KTyinhX7qI_206oIDURSHWZOwSVjmmCwCLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiX-R2bXlAw/YU02yEydEeI/AAAAAAAAJGc/ZAtj3eHdj5wux8c8e7NnOMqHEUELmIkcQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/3.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dollar Tree Shelf Dividers Cricut" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiX-R2bXlAw/YU02yEydEeI/AAAAAAAAJGc/ZAtj3eHdj5wux8c8e7NnOMqHEUELmIkcQCLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/3.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yWuLSHOUHoo/YU024fVD4zI/AAAAAAAAJGk/5qv4rDQ2QCMl-X8WwqClBn4scXNP-7CCQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/4.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dollar Tree Shelf Dividers Book Ends Book Tape" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yWuLSHOUHoo/YU024fVD4zI/AAAAAAAAJGk/5qv4rDQ2QCMl-X8WwqClBn4scXNP-7CCQCLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/4.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fYSk7HsOlt4/YU025QdkSEI/AAAAAAAAJGs/-6gdtvD4TBMK7BIhPoQKnV_G484rKbaygCLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/5.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dollar Tree Shelf Dividers Elementary High School Library" border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fYSk7HsOlt4/YU025QdkSEI/AAAAAAAAJGs/-6gdtvD4TBMK7BIhPoQKnV_G484rKbaygCLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/5.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lrpltSnfvIs/YU024uYUdJI/AAAAAAAAJGo/hopFdqIXadE27ylq6D4GbZFpE2to_T9lACLcBGAsYHQ/s1080/6.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lrpltSnfvIs/YU024uYUdJI/AAAAAAAAJGo/hopFdqIXadE27ylq6D4GbZFpE2to_T9lACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/6.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">Font used on the shelf dividers: Century Gothic (Bold)</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">#librarian #teacherlibrarian #librariansofinstagram #librarymediaspecialist #K12librarian #publicschooollibrarian #elementarylibrarian #highschoollibrarian</div><div><br /></div>Marlanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07884674618478175955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3539093784336059671.post-87734196906670084852020-12-09T23:25:00.001-06:002021-11-14T19:54:36.994-06:00*FREE* 10 Christmas Gift Bookmarks for Teachers and StaffNeed a quick and inexpensive gift for your teachers and staff? With the unknowns that can occur at any time and with the possibility of being quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure, my goal is to have several weeks worth of substitute lesson plans ready in case I would need to be absent and not have time to plan. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on sub plans and I wanted to try to keep the ideas super simple and easy for a sub to complete with my classes since they have to go into 21 different classrooms throughout the week and will not likely complete check-in/out. I thought this might be beneficial for some of you, as well. </p><p>I added multi-age resource links, book specific links and fillers. Click on the picture below to take you to the Google Slide with resource links. This document will be a work in progress, so be sure to check back often. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vQGf88RRecKGYRxV-m_g53Qz13Snj8D9wD1IFC5BlbGBKm0NbAcua_T6ECUfNUABDvtIWD3rkoeLmdM/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="816" data-original-width="1056" height="309" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g4NvQVT7ENA/X3pv4jQWg6I/AAAAAAAAIkU/Hv9MMPIViYMiVrX5sUwSzVccmPkGOWwAgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h309/Substitute%2BActivities%2Bfor%2BK-6%2BLibrary.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's to hoping we never have to use these, but staying hopeful that we'll be prepared if necessary! :) </div>Marlanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07884674618478175955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3539093784336059671.post-67029633796124697302020-08-23T17:44:00.005-05:002020-08-23T18:25:54.666-05:00{FREE Printable} Who Wet My Pants? by Bob Shea <p>I cannot wait to have my Kindergarten students later this coming week so I can read <u>Who Wet My Pants?</u> by <a href="https://www.bobshea.com/" target="_blank">Bob Shea</a> and illustrated by <a href="http://www.zohora.com/" target="_blank">Zachariah Ohora</a>! I feel like the kids will absolutely love it! It's a great way to just take all the embarrassment out of the way right up front with the littles! ;) I needed a quick activity to go with making predictions, so I came up with a free printable (at the bottom of this post) to go along with the book.</p><p>I love that Bob Shea has a book trailer and a read-aloud on YouTube for this story, too! With kiddos having to spread out so far in their classrooms for in-person learning right now, this will be perfect for me to project for them to watch. (I will be doing push-in/library on a cart classes for the foreseeable future, like many of you.)</p><p>Enjoy! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0hIwjH_6eO8/X0L64CGFafI/AAAAAAAAIi0/uOuKD8B7DVEdP_lGhHQbJg9R0x8-_6tjACLcBGAsYHQ/s768/Slide1.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="768" height="513" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0hIwjH_6eO8/X0L64CGFafI/AAAAAAAAIi0/uOuKD8B7DVEdP_lGhHQbJg9R0x8-_6tjACLcBGAsYHQ/w513-h513/Slide1.PNG" width="513" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><center><br /></center><center><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vfNicsfU0Ek" width="560"></iframe></center>

I am loving all the vibrant tropical colors that go along with the flamingo decor for this spring and summer, so I created some editable decor templates for use at home or in the classroom. Click on the picture below to download my freebie Flamingo Paradise Editable Banner Templates! There are 36 editable banner/bunting templates! They would be lots of fun for a summer birthday party, get-together, or pool party! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If you ever find a digital paper set you love and would like me to make some of these items for you, let me know! If you like them, I am sure others might, too! I tend to try to find digital paper sets with a variety of around 10-14 different papers. What is your classroom or library theme for next year if you are a theme-y person? ;)<br />
