At least I can say I taught all five days this week!

Earlier this week, I posted on Facebook that I wasn't sure I would be able to teach all five days this week. Between professional development days, Spring Break and other theme type days, I couldn't remember the last time I had taught an entire week.

I thought I was doing well, until today.

As I'm casually going about teaching calendar time, one of my little girls said, "Do you know you are wearing two different shoes?" Mind you, she's the same student we affectionately refer to as Carol after Kristin's post at The Teeny Tiny Teacher. Be sure to read her story if you haven't already.

So, I look down and see that I have one black ruffly flip-flop on my left foot and a black flip-flop with sequins on the right. Oh, my stars! All I could do was laugh and mention that at least they were the same color. I also told them that it was apparently Fun Feet Friday and I was the only one that participated. They didn't buy it!

I jokingly begged my class not to tell anyone, which erupted into shouts of who they were going to tell followed by lots of giggling. I told them I was glad the shoes looked pretty close to the same because no one else would probably notice. I said one is ruffly the other has sequins, but otherwise, they were pretty close.

Fast forward 10 minutes and we were talking about the sequence of events in the story There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick and one of my little boys says, "Sequence, that's like on your shoe!" (He thought it was the same as sequins.) I thought that was too cute!

In my defense, I literally ran out the door this morning trying to get to the store as fast as possible to buy my son and his friends some snacks for his lock-in at school tonight. I can't promise I won't make the same mistake again, but we definitely had a good laugh today. At the end of the day, one of our bus drivers, who is also our H.S. Ag teacher, told me that once he was at school and one of the teachers had shown up in her slip and he had to break the news to her. At least my shoes weren't that embarrassing!

Like I said, at least I made it all five days this week!!! Have you ever done something silly like this? Please tell me I'm not the only one!  Feel free to embarrass yourself anonymously if you need to just to make me feel better!

  1. LOL We have all had those moments. Many years back, I use to wear sheer knee highs under my dress pants. I had black ones, navy blue ones and skin tone ones. Since my hubby doesn't get up until a bit later than me, I always would dress in the bedroom only using the closet light.

Well, one day I got to school only to look down and realize that I was wearing one navy blue knee high and one black knee high. You have to admit....in the semi-dark, they do look the same. Now...I am OCD...so, of course, this just wouldn't do.

I immediately called my husband to bring me another black knee high. We only live 5 minutes away from the school, but, I swear, those five minutes felt like an eternity. Thank goodness he got there just before the first bell rang.

My students never got the chance to see my mix-matched knee highs but my team teachers got a great chuckle out of the story at lunch time.

I am so glad that style has changed and I don't even bother with the knee highs anymore. However, I do have black and navy blue shoes in the exact same style. I always fear the day that I accidentally wear one of each. I just know it will happen some day.

    Thanks for sharing your funny!

    Happy Blogging!

  2. I wore one black and one brown shoe to school once-the same exact shoe just different colors. In my defense, my daughter was an infant and getting up several times during the night! :)

  6. Last year I wore my favorite pair of Friday teaching jeans to school. You know the kind that are worn in, and soft, and snuggly, and stretchy, and all kind of denim goodness. I bent down at a students desk to answer a question and riiiiiiip. Right down the butt crack a roo. Thank heavens I had a sweatshirt I could tie around my waist. My mom, of all people, had to rush to my house and bring me an emergency pair of pants. Yep. One of my teaching hi-lights for sure! Thanks for making me smile at your post and and re-live my jean ripping trauma with a chuckle.

  8. My brother in law is a lawyer and he wore two different shoes to work one day when my niece was first born. She was keeping them up at night and he was barely getting out the door. I haven't mixed up my shoes. But I have worn a shirt or two inside out. Whoops.

    1. I hope no one made fun of him. I would say he was justified. Lack of sleep is definitely an excuse for just about anything. :) It sounds like several people have worn things inside out. I haven't done that...yet. If I do, I'm sure someone will be glad to tell me.

    1. You are so lucky! I wish this was the only time I've done something like this. :) I had a wrap skirt down to my ankles while standing on the bus incident, plus an unbuttoned shirt/bra exposure as I walked out of a dressing room and now this! It's a wonder I've never had the going to school naked dream with as many mishaps as I've had in real life. :)

    2. Wow, I am laughing my head off here. I am sorry but at least you can laugh at it now. I have to ask, did you have a slip on when your wrap skirt fell?

  10. YES! I've worn two unmatched black flats long ago. I had an affinity for buying similar black flats and accidentally matched an old one with a new one in the darkness under my bed! Of course, all of us are blessed with one of the Future Fashion Police Force in our classes to point out our shortcomings.

    1. Ha! I love the Future Fashion Police Force!!! 'Carol' is definitely the head of it in our class. Sometimes I wear my hair in a ponytail just to see if she'll tell me it looks weird that day.

  12. I did that once but I was sooooooo big with a baby, I explained to the kids I couldn't see my feet and they should feel sorry for their ol' pregnant fat teacher. They were very sweet and said they would keep it a secret. My husband on the other hand, told the whole world when he found out.

    1. Bless your heart! You had a good excuse! Seeing and/or reaching our feet during pregnancy is a luxury! Your kiddos were sweet. I have to admit, your hubby did what I would have done. Sorry! :) It kind of goes along with being a HUGE fan of physical comedy.

    1. :) I can totally relate! I came out of a dressing room one time without buttoning my shirt. The entire thing was completely open (showing my bra) and a man was waiting for his wife outside the dressing room and saw the whole thing. I pretty much sprinted for the check-out.

  14. The most mortifying event of my teaching career happened at a Back-to-School night a few years ago... I was wearing a super cute elastic waist "boho-looking" skirt. Underneath I had on a slip...well apparently the skirt was a tad too big and began to slip down. I was so busy telling my new parents all about the wonderful year ahead I didn't even notice. A father (not even a mom!) whispered to me as I walked by "You might want to pull your skirt up a bit." It had fallen almost down underneath my butt and I didn't even feel it! Holy cripes I was sooooooo embarrassed! Thank goodness I had that slip on or I might have scarred the parents permanently! :)

    1. Oh my goodness! Bless your heart! I'm not sure how you recover from that one other than just to know that something like that happens to everyone at some point. Poor thing! :) I just laughed out loud though reading about it! I'm thinking you probably had a whole class full of dad's wanting their kiddos to be in your class for sure! Hee, hee! Thanks for sharing!

    2. Those real tales are hilarious! I had one too. I mix-matached my sandals. It was just funny. Now I keep a pair of extra shoes at work. EG

  15. Yep, black shoe and blue shoe in the exact same style. I did it, too. It wouldn't have been so bad except that when I called my husband and begged him to bring me a matching shoe, he left it with the office staff with a note attached that said, "Cinderella."
