Common Core State Standards

I'm curious to find out from other teachers where your schools stand on switching from your current state objectives to the Common Core State Standards. I realize there are several states that have not adopted the CCSS, but I'm wondering how much others' administrators have left trickle down to the teachers at this time.

If this is the first you are hearing of CCSS, check here to see if your state has adopted the standards.

Our admin. hasn't really said much yet, but checking into the standards for Kindergarten leads me to believe we will be making some pretty big changes to our curriculum in the next couple of years.  I'm really excited about some of the changes.

What are your thoughts?

  1. We started using them this year 100% of the time, previously we were piloting them. The new math books we have to go with the series are not the best and we are finding math scores are declining throughout the county (those in the know forget that teachers talk to each other). My first graders lost almost 6 months of teaching because they didn't use the standards in K, so there are some holes that I need to fill on my own. Hopefully, next year will be better since students will begin where we leave off. It is still hard to imagine that I will not be teaching my students how to tell time in first grade.....

  2. Our State Adopted CCSS for this coming year for K-3. Sooo, this summer, K has meet several days to develop a pacing guide to correspond with CCSS. It's a work in progress.

  3. My district adopted CCSS during this past school year. (mid-year!!) So I am so grateful to find some pacing guides etc. because my district has not developed those yet. I am a new teacher trying to figure out what I am doing! Thank you for your great help and your great blog! I have a feeling I will be getting a lot of ideas here!

  4. HELP! Our school is starting the CCGPS this year and all of us Kindergarten teachers feel as if we have no direction to go in. Does anyone have any suggestions? We haven't really been told anything and we have to print all the standards/frameworks off ourselves.
